Special Olympics at UGA is a nonprofit that serves individuals in the Athens-Clarke County community through direct hands-on service as well as fundraising. On a weekly basis we have adaptive PE classes at the ACC schools and gymnastics and basketball practices to prepare the athletes for the winter games. A couple of our big events each year include prom, baseball, and an Easter egg hunt. We also do monthly social groups with adults who have graduated out of the school system, and we put on events such as movie nights and cookouts. All fundraising profits go directly towards Athens-Clarke County to help pay for equipment, transportation, and registration so we can send our athletes to the State Games. Thank you so much for your support!
Words from Anna-Lee:
I chose to join Special Olympics at UGA because of the impact that Best Buddies had on me in high school. Through Best Buddies I learned what it was like to have an impact on an individuals life with all abilities. I am currently a freshman at UGA, and I am working towards obtaining a certificate in Disability Studies to help advocate for those that cannot advocate for themselves. I know Special Olympics at UGA will provide me hands on experience to advocate for these individuals and create those meaningful friendships. Thank you so much for donating to my campaign and helping the athletes in Athens-Clarke County.
