Dear JCC Family and Friends,
One of the best decisions in my life was to join and work for Shimon and Sara Birnbaum JCC in Bridgewater. The JCC has been my home away from home for the past 4 years and for the next 72 hours, I am asking for your help and generosity for my JCC Family.
When COVID-19 hit, I wasn’t sure what to expect, as I am sure most of us didn’t when the doors to the JCC closed. Everyone was devastated and scared of the unknown. However, with the true leadership and team efforts from all the staff, the JCC was up and running virtually within one week of its closing.
All of the JCC’s virtual programming helped our entire community feel connected to something safe and familiar during unprecedented times, particularly our Special Needs adults. We at the JCC knew that for a couple hours out of their day they needed to experience laughter, joy and a sense of community. Andy & I are truly appreciative of all our J-Cares Mentors. They were and still are how our Special Needs program was able to provide that social connection we all as humans craved during those very tough times. We understood these virtual sessions could not replace real life interactions, but it helped all of us stay connected as a family and provided all of us a sense of purpose throughout the day.
During this experience, J-Cares became more of a family and made new community connections and friends as we were one of the few agencies that were still able to provide support and services. We opened our program to the community and found that our connections weren’t just local to New Jersey but expanded all the way to Florida. We have now returned to the JCC building, but still connect daily with a core group of our community friends virtually.
I have always believed that we are all pieces to a puzzle, from the simplest piece to the most intricate. Every piece unique, but when put together something magnificent is always created. That is how I view the JCC; we are all in this together, no matter who we are. Letters alone are just the alphabet, but when placed side by side these letters become powerful words and thoughts which allow us to communicate and provide expressions on how we feel. This is my true meaning of the word THANKS when it comes to the JCC.
The JCC is home to so many wonderful programs from special needs, preschool, camp, swim team, seniors and much more. What the JCC has accomplished during these last eight months is nothing short of a MIRACLE! Please help us raise the much-needed funds so the J can continue to be that home away from home for all of our family and friends.
The past 8 months have tested us in ways we never could have imagined. Please help us to ensure the JCC is here for many more years to come!
We have a group of donors who will MATCH any funds we raise in the next 72 hours, up to a total of $200,000. We could have over $400,000 if we get to that number.
Every little bit helps. No Donation is to small! Your $18 becomes $36. $50 becomes $100. Your $250 becomes $500. Please view the short video above and click on the DONATE link in the top right hand corner of this page to make a tax-deductible donation before Friday.
If you can’t give, please help me grow awareness by sharing this information on your social media.
Thank you in advance for helping support our JCC community,
Ellie, Andy & the Mentors
