Special Needs Respite, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that provides in-home childcare for kids with special needs. Most of us don't ever stop to consider what the life of a parent is like when they are raising children with disabilities. These parents have all of the same struggles as typical parents - marriage, finances, self-care, work-home balance, school; but also have the added struggle of dealing with behavioral outbursts that cannot be helped, seizures, therapies, fighting for civil rights for their children to be included, many not being welcomed in faith communities, sleep deprivation, specialized diet regimens, and the list goes on. To top it off, as a special needs parent, you can't just hire the teenager next door to come and stay with your child when you want to go out or need to run errands for your household. While we aren't able to meet every need for a special needs family, we desire to do at least one thing. That one thing is to give parents a much needed and well-deserved break to rest and recharge. We provide trained caregivers to come to the home for a few hours or even a few days. This allows parents the time they need to take a break and then get back in the game of parenting.
Not only do we provide well trained, loving caregivers, but we established a scholarship program to help our families make this caregiving a reality since many are unable to afford trained caregivers. This scholarship allows them to choose a caregiver that is a friend, family member, or professional who is familiar with the needs of their child. We are raising money this month to help 6 families fulfill this need. Please partner with us by giving or sharing our fundraiser and help us meet or exceed our goal. The parents desperately need our support!
