Hi Everyone! Thank you so much for visiting my page to learn more about the Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation and why I race with the SpeakUp Race Team! I am humbled to represent an organization so near to my heart. I was nearing the end of my third favorite leg of Ironman Chattanooga 2017 (the bike), when I was told that I wouldn't make the time cutoff to finish my bike leg, and my day was over. Defeated, my bike was unceremoniously put in the back of a pick up truck, and I was bussed back to the transition area. That day was not my day to finish an Ironman mostly because I allowed fear to conquer me.
When my day in Chattanooga was over, I thought for a long time about whether or not triathlon was the sport for me, and I came to the conclusion that it is the perfect sport for me to represent the Foundation. So, this year I will continue to race, conquer my fears, and speak up for all those who struggle with depression and anxiety. I am taking on Ironman Florida on November 3, 2018 and I will be racing for the most amazing foundation that continues to make a massive impact in my immediate community (Richmond, VA) and nationwide!
The Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation uses the funds raised by this Race Team to support their free mental health programs in schools throughout the Richmond area. These programs have reached over 17,000 students and have provided them with incredible resources that teach teenagers the importance of mental wellness, give them tools to manage stress such as mindfulness and recogonize signs of depression or anxiety, and let them know that they are never alone. I am so proud to be an ambassador for such an incredible organization and to carry out Cameron's vision of a community that recogonizes and supports all those who struggle with mental health without judgment or stigma.
