Spartan Scholarships was created to provide educational support to the community, specifically for those in low income families that otherwise would not have the ability to attend an institution of higher education.
The Spartan Scholarship and Mentorship Program is an 8-year program (four years in high school and four years in higher education) that will be awarding its first generation award in May 2021 to an eighth grade graduate. Each student awarded will be guaranteed, subject to continuance criteria: 1) a full scholarship for educational expenses while in college or higher education for a maximum of $60,000 per year for the lesser of 4 years or the completion of the degree being earned; and 2) a mentoring program linked to success in high school, college, and in life. Each year, a scholarship is chosen in support of a specific cause, with the goal of providing 100% of college expenses for an independently chosen student.
The Deborah Elizabeth Gable Memorial Scholarship was chosen for the 2021 in remembrance of an amazing mother and supporter of higher education, who passed away after a difficult battle with cancer in July 2020.
Criteria for this scholarship will be: 1) Harford County resident and/or Harford County Public School student; 2) Single Parent household; 3) Family annual income below 110% of the 2020 Federal Poverty Guidelines.
