"Hiyaa!" I spun around and did a jump crescent kick in the air before landing on the ground again with a firm thud. "Good job, Meryem!" my instructor said, and gave me a thumbs up. I smiled. After many weeks of practice, this was the first time I had been able to perform this kick. Wiping some sweat from my forehead, I rushed to the water fountain after my taekwondo class, gulping the fresh cool water down my throat. - Meryem Kose, age 11
The sun was shining fiercely as I walked through the dusty path to my grandfather's village in Bangladesh last summer vacation. "Are we there yet?" I asked my mom as sweat dripped down my face. "Almost," she said. Suddenly, I could see ripples of water glimmering in the distance. I ran ahead, and sure enough, I could see a beautiful lake with cute ducks floating on the surface. I ran into the cool water, splashing myself and my brother. - Nabiha Rahman, age 11
These experiences have made us realize how important and precious water is in our lives. Whether we are working out in martial arts or walking outside on a hot day, we get thirsty on a daily basis. We are grateful that water is readily available to us, and that we can simply walk over to a water fountain or fridge to fill up a cool glass of water to drink whenever we want.
However, there are many people in the world, even kids like us, who don't share the same opportunities. This is why we want to raise money for water pumps in poverty-stricken areas in the world. We want to give people access to fresh, clean water so they, too, can fulfill their thirst. We want to bring sparkles of light into the world. Our team will be walking on November 17 to pursue this goal. Please support us by donating any amount so you can bring sparkles of light to the world, too! -Nur, Meryem, and Nabiha
