During this difficult time, The Society for the Promotion of Arts and Recreation in the Community (SPARC) realizes that the best way to support the arts and the community is to provide financial assistance to cover basic living expenses of community members most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
SPARC is a small not-for-profit founded in 2005 to support Burning Man related events in Southeast Michigan. This includes Burner Newbie Orientations, Great Lakes Burner Symposiums, SCRAP, Figment Detroit, and other events that support the arts and build community.
Given the unprecedented nature of this event, we have decided to contribute $8000 (the majority of our operating funds) toward creating twenty $400 grants and to solicit donations to offer even more grants to the community.
With your help, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those that make the Burning Man and related Creative Communities in Southeast Michigan possible. This includes projects such as Nonsense Night, the Marche Du Nain Rouge, Torch with a Twist, Theatre Bizarre, the Detroit Fire Collective, and other projects that have been created with the help of Burners and the Burner ethos.
Through this campaign we hope to match the grants SPARC is offering so that together we can provide at least $16,000, so that 40 members (or more!) of the community can receive much needed aid during this difficult time.
For those looking to apply to the grant, the application deadline is 4/3/20 and the application can be found here: http://bit.ly/sparcgrant
Since SPARC is a 501c3 not-for-profit all donations are tax deductible. After the campaign is over, you will receive a receipt for your donation. All donations from this fundraiser will go directly into grants for those in need.
Thank you for your support of this amazing community!
