Hi honeybuns, Chaco & I are raising $$ for the 6th year bearthday of Seeding Change – A Center for Asian American Movement Building! Seeding Change was sowed from a vision of a national infrastructure for Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) grassroots organizing and a pipeline for the next generation of AAPI organizers building a vibrant social and economic justice movement.
Some of you may know that I was part of the first cohort of Seedlings, and all these years later I am still profoundly grateful for this transformative space for my personal & political development. No matter what our paths in life, we always need strong and loving mentorship to guide and ground us; we always need community that sees and nurtures our potential, and enable us to grow into our highest versions of ourselves, into alignment with our values for a just and equitable world.
Spaces like Seeding Change have been fundamental in grounding my liberation practices & movement work in healing and love (not the shallow, passive and bad/no boundaries ‘love’ we are taught by white supremacy; but love as action, as positive struggle towards change and towards our higher selves, as accountability because we believe in each other’s growth). Struggle in love, love in struggle.
Seeding Change grounded, and continues to ground, me in finding my own paths and the strengths I can bring to movement work. There is no one way to do movement work.
The revolution will not be a toppling of one system of oppression replaced with another omnipresent system—it is all of us, healing the traumas enacted and passed onto us through systems of oppression, and transforming the true roots of oppression until they no longer manifest in how we show up in ourselves and how we interact with each other in the world.
Seeding Change is such a necessary space that ensures we never wax identity politics, but build on the politics of our identities. We don’t just learn about our histories as API in the Americas, but learn how our own liberations are intimately connected to the struggles and liberations of all oppressed peoples.
I can go on 5ever about how transformational being a Seedling has been for me, and all the other Seedlings since. I got to work with the fellows this year, and the passion and love and commitment to their growths and their communities liberation has just been so heart and soul warming for me. You can learn about each of our fellows this summer and to check out what they're up to this summer.
Unfortunately like most grassroots organizations, the ability to sustain the work in the long run is always uncertain. That’s why Chacobutt and I are asking you to spare coffee/boba change (or SugarPerson $$ if you love us like that) to help ensure Seeding Change continues to thrive.
If you are able and willing, please donate here directly (or if you are donating under $10, you can venmo me @koko-li) and let other folks know that you just supported a grassroots effort to develop leadership for our communities for the long haul. Thanks for reading fam!
