On an average day, Southwark School in Philadelphia, PA is a busy place for language, music, science and math learning. But one day each spring, the school yard is transformed into a carnival as the upper school students host Fun Day, a day-long celebration of games, laughter and community. The event also serves as the primary fundraiser for our Activity Fund.
Like many schools, the past school year at Southwark did not go as planned. Our resilient staff and students continued through the coronavirus shutdown, but remote learning did not allow for Fun Day. Now that the Philadelphia School District has released its plan for Advancing Education Safely, our staff are brainstorming new ideas to engage students, create shared experiences remotely and celebrate achievement. In the past, the fund has allowed for honor roll activities and class trips. Maybe that will be possible in the coming year. If not, we are rebuilding our Activity Fund to prepare for whatever the coming year has in store.
We recognize that communities and families have been impacted in ways that we could not have anticipated before COVID-19. If you are in a position to give, we are grateful for your donation.
