Covid19 has placed high school sports in a precarious position, lacrosse especially. As a non-OSAA sanctioned sport, school funding is not available to offset expenses, meaning lacrosse does not benefit from the ‘no fee for sports’ provided by Beaverton School District for 2021. With the 2020 season ending before games began, funds from typical sources such as registration and fundraising were not realized.
At Southridge High in Beaverton, recent boundary adjustments have lowered program numbers while costs for fields, insurance and equipment have risen. A shortened season leaves little time for fundraising campaigns, and without fans allowed corporate sponsorships are unlikely. This leaves the Skyhawks with greater expenses to be shared by fewer players.
Though fans may not be able to support their favorite team from the stands in 2021, they can still offer their support financially. As a 501(c)3 charitable organization, your donation to Southridge High Lacrosse may help your taxes and will help kids who have been waiting a year to take the field again with their teammates.
Thank you and GO HAWKS!
