When you donate to the SOUTH OAKLAND FAMILY YMCA, you make SOUTH OAKLAND better through programs focused on:
South Oakland Swims: $5000 fully funds our swim outreach program Young people in underserved communities often do not learn the critical water safety and swimming skills to keep them safe, which results in a disproportionate amount of deaths and injuries each year. The Y is addressing this important issue by offering free learn-to-swim programs throughout Metro Detroit. Not only are children learning to be confident in the water, they are learning important and potentially life-saving water safety skills, while the program simultaneously creates awareness around the importance of this issue.
Summer Day Camp: $2500 provides 2 weeks day camp for 12 kids Day camp at the Y helps kids form new friendships, strengthen confidence and sharpen character. The Y is also working to close the achievement gap and reverse the trend of summer learning loss throughout Metro Detroit by including educational programs into all of our summer day camps. However, not all children have access to enriching summer experiences. The Y raises funds so everyone, regardless of income or background, has the ability to learn, grow and thrive at camp.
Girls on the Run/STRIDE: $500 provides Girls on the Run®/Stride for 5 girls/boys These afterschool programs use the power of running to help prepare youth for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living with interactive activities such as running, playing games and meaningful discussions culminating in a 5K run. Youth in third through eighth grades learn a greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement and team building skills to help them become strong and self-confident.
The Y believes that every child should have the opportunity to participate. Scholarships are awarded so that no child is turned away due to inability to pay. Every dollar donated to the SOUTH OAKLAND FAMILY YMCA has a lasting impact on the people of SOUTH OAKLAND. Give today for a better us.
