By now, we are all aware of the impact that the Coronavirus pandemic is having on the world economy. Even people in the most developed nations are feeling their pockets squeezed; many are finding that there is simply more month than money these days.
The situation in the majority world is even more dire: as governments scramble to take care of a select few, the marginalized become even more forgotten than usual. For many, what work they had before the pandemic has dried up, but government assistance is only a dream.
Since the COVID-19 situation began, we have been receiving calls for help through our contacts in South Asia (Pakistan, India, and the surrounding region). Because Lady Care International already works among many of the world's poorest and least empowered populations, we are uniquely situated to address these new needs head-on, but we need your help!
We are collecting funds to purchase life-sustaining food and sanitation supplies for the communities we serve across the Indian subcontinent. Whatever you can donate will help someone in need during this time when they need it most.
UPDATE: To make matters worse, the worst storm ever recorded in the Bay of Bengal (Cyclone Amphan) recently made landfall along the coasts of India and Bangladesh in late May, packing 165 mph winds and a storm surge of 16 feet. This storm displaced nearly 3 million people who were already struggling due to the pandemic, not to mention the chronic economic conditions in this region. Please consider giving today to support them!
