Our Veterans often return from a tour of duty with significant emotional trauma, known as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). The suicide rate among our veterans with this condition is astounding - more than 20 (twenty) each and every day. The isolation of Covid19 has only exacerbated these traumas pushing more people to suicidal thoughts. While counseling and anti- depression medications are prescribed, many veterans continue to suffer and continue to take their lives.
Below is John Barnes, veteran of the US Army, speaking about our program.
Dr. Duke Thompson, Director of Maryland Conservatory of Music, was in a near-death automobile accident, which resulted in TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) and severe physical injury to his entire left side. After spending time at Maryland Shock Trauma and in a hospital bed for many weeks, he began composing music that communicated with his PTSD. The prescribed anti-anxiety/depression medications were not helping him. Through the effectiveness of Dr. Thompson’s expressive music, a program called Music for the Inner Self was created and a new Division of Maryland Conservatory, SoundMinds USA, was born.
Mission Statement of SoundMinds USA: to help veterans and others manage and recover from the difficulties associated with severe trauma of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) through abstract thought-provoking music and discussion.
Below is veteran Sa Snead sharing his thoughts about the program:
This fundraising campaign will enable us to offer our programs to any individual (and their loved ones) at no cost. We need to market our existence to veterans, active military, members of the general public, counselors, survivors, etc.. With your support, SoundMinds USA can be present at Community Centers, Vet Centers, American Legions, Churches, Counseling Centers et al.

By supporting this Go Fund Me Page, you help us help those who suffer from severe trauma. Our goal is to give those with PTSD, the ability to process and recover from their trauma, thereby moving the suicide rate towards zero.
Thank you for helping us help others.
SoundMinds USA is a 501-c-3 non-profit organization; Employment Identification Number is 52-234-3016.
