The biggest barrier for refugee and im(migrant) students pursuing post-secondary schooling is access to funding — these students are often excluded from public and private financial aid channels. We’re working to change that, through a dedicated scholarship fund.
The Students of Salaam (SOS) Migrant Student Scholarship Fund launched in 2018 to support the academic and professional goals of migrant students, through mentorship and financial aid.
Despite a small operating budget, we’ve already seen 5x growth in applicants (250 applicants this year versus 45 in the year prior), underscoring the strong demand and urgent need for resources to support these students.
Since launching, we’ve supported three students in their journey from high school to college (you can meet them above!)
We’re now fundraising for our 2021 scholarship. Our initial goal is to raise $12,000.
Join us! 100% of campaign funds will go directly to scholarship recipients for tuition, room and board, and associated educational costs.
