We plant the seeds that one day will grow. We water seeds already planted, Knowing that they hold future promise. -Oscar Romero, “Future Not Our Own”
This summer, I am honored to be 1 of 20 Seeding Change fellows placed at different grassroots organizations across the country. For the past few weeks, I've been placed at the Chinese Progressive Association (CPA) in Chinatown, San Francisco working with middle and high school youth organizers across the Bay Area.
I applied to Seeding Change in order to take knowledge from I’ve been learning in college and practice it, rather than just keeping it in institutions. I applied because I wanted to be in a radical organizing space and learn more about organizing so that I could be a part of movement building and change. I also wanted to see what a grassroots organization does and learn more about what they do!
Seeding Change is important to me because it cultivates a space of Asian folx who want to create a different, just, and better future than what we have today. It’s important because a lot of us are queer/trans/non-binary/womxn and centering these folx is so so important and can cultivate an alternative future of liberation. I went into Seeding Change and CPA feeling scared, nervous, unknowledgable, excited, hopeful, and so many other mixed feelings about organizing and movement building. This organization and fellowship have allowed me to recognize that we are not alone and that we can organize and heal collectively from systems of oppression that have tried to isolate us and keep us separate us from each other!
YOU can help us sustain this beautiful work for the long run.
You can donate directly here and let other folx know that you just supported a grassroots effort to develop leadership for our communities for the long haul. Your money will directly help next year's fellows in their fight for collective liberation!
Any amount is appreciated! Feel free to venmo me @soapham or zelle me at email@example.com if you prefer to give the money to me directly! Please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions, I’d be happy to catch up with you :0) !
