I have been involved with a nonprofit organization, The Book Truck, for a while now. They work hard to increase literacy and promote a love of reading for foster care and low-income teens. Last year, I participated in their first annual read-a-thon and was blown away by the support I received for this cause.
Reading allows me to use my imagination and give my mind a break from homework and daily stress. I would love to share the experiences books give me with as many people as possible. Recently I volunteered at a Book Truck literacy event for teen moms. The simple act of recommending a good read to an uncertain reader was so rewarding. I noticed an immediate change in each teen's demeanor as they walked away with a new book.
A donation of ten dollars can sponsor a teen, and a donation of twenty can sponsor two. Thanks to the help of many generous donors, last year I raised $830 to sponsor 83 teens. This year, I am attempting to raise one thousand dollars to sponsor one hundred teens. I know I am asking for a lot, but any amount will help. I appreciate all donations, no matter the size, and hope that you will choose to help me help others to experience one of the joys I take for granted.
