Together we can change the lives of 24 children a year and help empower and elevate one of the most struggling parts of our city.
Preschool makes a difference. In fact, studies show that preschool makes an exponential difference in the socioeconomically challenged communities. Children who attend preschool eventually score higher on High School proficiency tests and have a higher acceptance rate at the college level.
Sonrise will truly be a unique preschool in all of Lodi. Sonrise will be the only Christian and only private preschool East of the train the tracks. Community research reveals that attending children will largely be from socioeconomically challenged families and that most are considered “English Learners” by the educational system. The planning team believes initial research reveals the incredible need for early education in this part of our city.
Sonrise will be unique in that the goal is to offer subsidized preschool tuition for every child. Parents will be expected to contribute towards tuition but this will be only a fraction of the actual cost. It is our hope that the remaining fees can be raised from other local churches, businesses, Christians, and community-minded individuals.
We believe that together, we can influence Christ-centered change in this struggling part of our city.

Commonly asked questions:
1. What organization is launching the preschool? The Sonrise launch team is a multi-church group involving members from Vinewood Church, Horizon Community Church, First Baptist, and other Lodi churches. We see the vision as bigger than any one organization. Legally, Sonrise preschool will be a Horizon Community Church ministry and operate under Horizon’s 501(c)3.
2. What will be the ethnic diversity of the preschool? We believe the children in the preschool will reflect the surrounding community and be about 70% Hispanic and 25% Pakistani.
3. How the funds will be spent? The initial launch of the preschool will require ~$30,000. Much of these initial funds will go to remodeling the facility at Horizon to accommodate a preschool. This includes an outdoor play area and the creation of a new classroom. It will also include the initial payroll for our teachers. The remaining funds will go to staffing, preschool materials, curriculum, and utilities. The $100,000 goal will secure enough funds to operate the preschool for a full year (including initial construction needs).
