I'm at it again! Dedicating Marathon #18 for those with pancreas disease!
On Sunday, October 27, 2019, I will be joining the National Pancreas Foundation (Team Pancreas) and the Marine Corps Marathon by running through the streets of Washington, DC to raise money for cutting-edge research for those suffering from pancreas disease
The NPF is the only foundation dedicated to patients who are suffering from all forms of pancreas disease – pediatric pancreatitis, acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.
Anatomy refresher: The pancreas is an organ located in the abdomen. The two main functions: creating insulin and enzymes to aid in digestion.
Every week I listen to heart-aching stories from patients and caregivers who reach out to the NPF as a resource for information and education. Working for the NPF I have seen how we help those that are suffering and I want to raise money for research dollars (we've given over 4 million to fund 121 grants) but also continue to provide hope and support for those that have pancreas disease.
As someone who is active - I can't imagine having to quit your job, be in constant pain, not be able to eat what you want - all because your organ decided it didn't want to function the way it should.
How can you help? Buy a Mile!
For the marathon - I will have a bracelet with mile markers (26 miles) and names of the donor (you!). For $25 you can buy a mile. Do you want to "buy" Mile 1? Where it's a warm - up, and I'm feeling good! Mile 4 when life is puppies and ice cream! Or Mile 13.1 where I think "why?!" Mile 16 where I'm usually thinking about french fries and a burger. Mile 20 where I need to dig deep and hold on for the next 10K?
Whatever mile you want to "buy", I will run that mile for you (and for those that are suffering from pancreas disease). Thank you in advance for your donation! <3
