Soccer Without Borders is proud to field a NYC Marathon Team for the fourth year in a row! In 2019, ten members of the SWB community will join our marathon team to raise money for SWB, spread the word about our work and run the five boroughs on November 3, 2019.
SWB takes a holistic approach to youth development, harnessing the power of soccer to build meaningful cross-cultural relationships, create inclusive environments, foster English language learning, and motivate academic engagement. Our goal is to provide newcomer youth with a space to feel safe, welcome and accepted; the opportunity to join, free of charge a high quality sports program; encouragement to learn to speak English; a caring community, a way to make friends and engagement in healthy activities; and a place to learn leadership skills that will make them valued community members.
Our programs address barriers to access and inclusion that too often prevent newcomer families who are linguistically, economically and culturally isolated from the mainstream from participating in after-school activities and team sports. The efforts of our NYC Marathon Team will position us to continue to support our youth, so they can experience the benefits of team sport and invest in themselves, their communities and their futures.
Of the ten runners joining our team for 2019, seven will be running to support SWB in Boston and three will be running to support SWB's Main Office. If you have further questions, please visit SWB’s marathon website or contact Lucas Holmes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
