As the mother of a beautiful 4-year-old, making sure that my daughter receives proper education is the most important thing in the world to me. While we've been fortunate enough that basic education is free in the United States, in certain parts of the world, like Haiti, that isn’t the case. Children in Haiti must pay tuition, even in kindergarten. I remember specifically the year where I ran into some kids in Haiti on one of my visits. They were sitting in front of the school steps during school hours, and when I asked them why they were not in school, they said that the school wouldn't let them take the final exam for graduation because they hadn’t paid tuition. A lot of Haitian parents are not able to provide the funds to send their children to school AND provide for food. So, they choose one or the other. Knowing this and experiencing it the way that I had has had a huge impact on me. And even more so as a mother. Hence, Solidarity for the wellness of Haitian Children, otherwise known as SO.B.E.H.
SO.B.E.H is a non-profit organization that strives to impact the children of Haiti by providing over 300 students annually with access to tuition, backpacks, and school necessities. The organization is based in Miami, Florida, where our annual fundraising gala takes place, and members of the community come together to raise money for those underprivileged students. This year, we would like to double the impact that we’re making by sending at least 600 kids to the school in Baradères, L’asile, and Port-de-Paix with fully stocked backpacks. With any size donation of your choice, you can fund a backpack filled with school supplies, shoes, and meals for students. So, in the spirit of doing something with passion, love, and creativity, please take the opportunity to donate and make a difference!
