Last year, only half of Oregon's third graders met state reading standards.
SMART provides volunteers to read one-on-one with kids each week and provides books for the children to keep in order to build strength and confidence in young readers. SMART has a huge impact on the early literacy success of children across Oregon. Their success has shown that when kids think reading is fun, they want to do it - and when they want to read, they're more likely to master the skill. 85% of SMART students have consistently shown improvement in measures of reading motivation and enjoyment, which are strongly correlated with reading performance.
Since 1992, SMART has connected nearly 135,000 volunteers with 211,000 kids for one-on-one reading support and books to keep to build their libraries, and nurturing their love of reading and learning.
Here is how you can help:
- A $325 donation will fully support one child's experience in SMART - including one-on-one reading time spent with a trained volunteer over the course of several weeks and 14 new books to pick out and keep.
- A $40 donation will provide a participating student with 14 brand new books to help build their own personal library.
- Make a donation amount of your choice (every little bit helps!)
- Volunteer with SMART and help make a lifetime of difference for a child.
Make your gift today before our campaign ends on June 14th!
Thank you for your support!
