When our daughter, Sloane, was born at only 24 weeks and weighing only 1 lbs. 4 ounces on May 16th, 2018, we weren't sure if she was going to make it to her 1st birthday or what her quality of life would look like. Over her 139 day stay at Magee Women's Hospital, The Children's Home, and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Sloane received amazing care from doctors, nurses, and volunteers. We are so grateful that she is healthy and thriving and we owe so much to these amazing facilities for saving her life.
One consistent service at each facility that we are so thankful for was Austin's Playroom. Sloane is lucky to have an amazing big brother, Roland, who was only 3 years old when she was born. It was essential for us to see Sloane daily and be with her as much as possible but very hard to balance that with Roland's needs and trying to keep life as "normal" as possible for him. Austin's Playroom made that balance so much easier for us and Roland would always look forward to visiting his baby sister and playing in the playroom. When Sloane was discharged from the hospital, we knew we wanted to celebrate her life and her first birthday in a big way with our friends and family who helped us during the darkest times.
Sloane doesn't need any gifts or presents, her health is the better than any gift money could buy. We decided to ask people in lieu of gifts to please consider donating to Austin's Playrooms, an initiative of the Mario Lemieux Foundation, that provides playrooms for children and families in medical facilities, just like ours.
We're celebrating in style on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Ross Community Center. Here is a link to the Eventbrite page if you'd like to attend and celebrate with us! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sloanes-1st-birthday-party-tickets-55051983966
