St. Luke Infant Care Center (or SLICC) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) preschool located in the heart of Austin, and has been serving the local community for the past 39 years. Our mission is to provide a safe, positive, and caring environment in which children can explore and learn through play and developmentally appropriate activities. The teachers and staff at SLICC are incredibly dedicated and have a profound respect for each child - recognizing the importance of building self esteem in even the youngest of children.
In compliance with the executive stay at home order passed in March, SLICC closed its doors. While the school (and the city) waded through unknown territory, the teaching staff at SLICC put on their rain boots and began brainstorming some long distance teaching alternatives. We have been blessed with an amazing community of families, and together we have worked to maintain a sense of normalcy and security for the children who would typically be in our physical care. We have have been fortunate to continue to connect via teacher created activity bags (and delivered them personally) and daily Zoom circle times, during which we share songs, stories, craft ideas and connection.
Throughout the pandemic SLICC has continued to pay staff salaries, 401k’s, and health insurance premiums in addition to covering the cost of necessary operating expenses. While we have a plan in place to open our doors in August (to the safest of our abilities and under strict CDC guidelines) everyday life continues to feel uncertain, and the future of SLICC and the livelihood of our teachers and staff is at risk.
If we are prevented from reopening in August, or are forced to close again, the loss will be incalculable and the permanent closure of our amazing little school could become a reality.
How can you help? A tax deductible donation (large or small) will help us continue to financially support the teachers and staff throughout the remainder of our closure and beyond. It will also ensure that when we do open our doors we will once again be the all-encompassing, supportive community that you have come to know and love.
How else can you help? Share this campaign with everyone you know. Facebook it...tweet it...Instagram it. Share it with extended family and friends. Share it with educational enthusiasts. Share it with your neighbor. And while you’re at it, see if your employer has a program to help nonprofits through matching donations.
Wishing us all an abundance of good health and a return to some semblance of normalcy in the near future. We are so incredibly grateful for your support.
