Impacting Chicago’s Neighborhoods, One Job at a Time...
Unemployment is increasing rapidly due to the COVID-19 crisis. Skills’ mission is to connect unemployed job seekers with open, available jobs through our network of employer partners. Currently, Skills has pivoted rapidly to place job seekers into essential service jobs (e.g. healthcare, grocery, pharmacy, good distribution). And as we emerge from this crisis, unemployment will be a critical issue—with even greater impact on disinvested communities. Skills is redoubling its efforts to serve the Chicagoland communities that are being hardest hit at this time, with teams using virtual training and interviews, and online information sessions and events. Whether someone is living paycheck to paycheck, or is a student seeking a career pathway, is recently unemployed, or is transitioning careers, Skills can help.
Skills is a non-profit organization established in 2012. Skills’ mission is to create demand-driven solutions for employers to get the unemployed and underemployed to work. Skills provides a bridge, offering access to existing jobs due to the relationships we have cultivated with employers and the commitments to hire that we obtain. In only seven years since our founding, Skills has put more than 7,300 under and unemployed job seekers in Chicago back to work and onto paths of greater economic mobility and self-reliance. Skills is able to bridge the "access gap" by providing the missing link between job-ready candidates and the positions employers need to fill.
