Join me in supporting the Sioux YMCA this giving season. This summer I had the pleasure of volunteering with the Sioux Y Initiative, a volunteer lead summer program that delviers pop-up day camp experiences and healthy summer meals to young people living in isolated commuities on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation in South Dakota.
Roughly the size of Connecticut, communities on the reservation face an 80% unemployment rate with limited access to the few jobs that exist on the reservation. The Y brings hope and opportunty to young people, many of whom struggle with food insecurity and adverse living situations. For context, two thirds of the population survive on much less than one-third of the average US income.
I hope you'll join me in supporting the Sioux YMCA as one of your charities of choice this year! I am working to raise $1,000 on (or before) Giving Tuesday to directly support summer camp, out of school time programs, and community opportunities lead by my dear friends and colleauges working and serving in South Dakota.
