It breaks my heart that I can't go to Gulu, Uganda this year for my annual humanitarian trip. I've gone the last 5 years in a row. What's also broken my heart, are the burns that happen there... some are accidental and some are not. Some, of both types, happen to very young children. ALL burns, need proper nutrition and treatment to heal. A couple of inspiring volunteers I've had the honor of going to Gulu with saw a chance to make a life-changing difference... and they decided to buy some land to build a burn unit village. A place where families, and patients who need to be close to the hospital (many come from very far distances, and they end up having to stay for an extended period of time while their family person is in the hospital and to be able to stay close for proper treatment). Since I can't go this year, I want to still be a part of making a difference, and I want to share that opportunity with each of you. We're going to help them build a kitchen for the burn unit village. Their method of cooking is with fire. So this won't be just any kitchen, but a kitchen that's SAFE which includes a metal roof (versus a grass roof that could catch on fire) and fencing around it will help it to be safe from accidents. A very important part of this is the safety aspect of keeping the fire off the ground and away from kids. Usually, I've raised the base cost of my trip but I want to be a little ambitious and raise money to build the kitchen and fence. I'd love to have you all join me whether it's sharing this campaign, $5.00 or whatever you feel you want to and can do. I can vouch that the money all goes towards the Gulu Project, and this money will go towards the kitchen. Thank you!
