My name is Megan Sigler and I am the Marketing Manager at Cleveland Sight Center (CSC). In the past (almost) two years that I have worked at CSC, I have learned so much about the blind and visually impaired community. Most importantly: disability does not equal inability. They can do anything a sighted person can.
So where does Cleveland Sight Center come in? CSC staff help individuals of all ages who are blind or have vision loss find solutions to help them do what they want to do.
The white cane is a perfect example of this. The white cane helps users navigate their world independently.
One of my colleagues said:
“My white cane is a trusty companion. It enables me to be independent and have the freedom to go where I want to. It is more than just a stick to alert people that I am coming through, it’s a part of me like an extension of my hand. It provides me with information about how the ground level changes, curbs, holes, trip hazards, stairs, barriers and obstacles that are in my way.”
Please consider supporting my White Cane Walk team by registering to walk virtually or donating! Your support helps provide training to individuals on how to use the white cane properly. More than that, your participation shows that you believe that disability does not equal inability. Let's work towards a more accessible and respectful world together!
