“Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.” – Victor Hugo
For the last eight years, a group of friends has been running legs of the Pittsburgh Marathon to raise money for the World Hope International Recovery Centre in Sierra Leone. This Recovery Centre is a home for girls that have survived sex trafficking. It is a home where they are safe to heal, receive therapy, continue their education, receive medical attention, and learn how deeply God loves them. The home is staffed by 34 Sierra Leoneans - individuals who love God and are passionate about His ability to heal the broken hearted.
This year the team will be specifically raising money to furnish a family bonding room. We know that helping restore healthy connection between survivors and their supportive family members is integral to their healing. This room will be a safe haven where survivors can meet with family members and work through their tragedy with the support of social workers and counselors. This room will be a bridge for survivors as they begin to safely reintegrate into their previous life with new skills and healthy family relationships.
In addition, we will be raising money to provide developmental toys for young children at the Recovery Centre. It is difficult to find stimulating developmental toys in Sierra Leone. However, with your donations, we will be able to purchase these toys in the United States and send them to the Recovery Centre. Toys such as puzzles, sorting toys, fine motor skill toys, and interactive learning toys will stimulate the young children at the Recovery Centre, providing them opportunities for laughter and learning. These toys will also be used to facilitate attachment and bonding between mothers and their children.
Thank you for any amount you can give, however you can pray, and whatever you can do to bring hope to the broken. Thank you for running along with us towards the rescue and healing of lives. We could not be more thankful!
