On 10/10/2020 our sweet babygirl surprised us with a 20 week premature arrival. Due to an uncommon condition that wasn’t caught in time for emergency rescue, called cervical insufficiency or cervical incompetence, my body was no longer going to be able to carry our sweet babe to full term. This led to her extremely early delivery. This condition only affects about 1% of pregnancies, but I know our story is among many. It’s a confusing, painful, and terrible situation that I would wish on no one. On Thursday 10/08, we heard our baby’s heartbeat and were told that things looked good. Later in that appointment I start randomly bleeding, and after 2 days of visits with multiple doctors it was evident that I was 8cm dilated and within a day, my water broke and I was in labor. Although she was not able to survive delivery and never got to experience this world, we named her Aila. Her name means, “from the strong place” and “bringer of light” and we will hold her memory as our foundational support for our future as parents. Although no one plans to ever experience the loss of a child, either early or later in life, we continue to find strength and derive as much positivity as possible. We are devastated, but grateful for each other and our community.
In Aila's honor, we are raising money for the March of Dimes who lead the fight for the health of moms and babies. Whether you donate a small amount or participate in our snowboarding run pledge, every penny counts. **Contact Matthew or I about the snowboarding run form if you haven't pledged an amount yet and want to**
We love you and thank you for your contribution.
