WHO WE ARE:
I’m Cecily. I decided to create a fundraiser with a “Show Us What You’ve Got” challenge for athletes whose sporting events are on hold due to COVID-19. I thought it would be fun to see how athletes of all ages and abilities continue to gain strength and hone their skills in order to be ready to jump back into competitions when safe to do so.
I compete in the Paralympic Equestrian sport called Para-Dressage. Many of my fellow competitors’ regular training schedules have been interrupted by COVID-19. Some para equestrians are not able to go to the barn to train with their horse, or go to the gym, work with their trainers or even their physical therapists. I am sure it is the same for athletes of all ages representing different sports at all levels. Recently, I have been inspired by work-out videos of my para-athlete friends during this pandemic lock-down. It occurred to me that I could ask athletes to take part in a friendly “Show Us What You’ve Got” challenge while at the same time helping to crush COVID-19. I called on my friend Lily Kinder to help me with this project, knowing that her rowing competitions were on hold. Her story is below.
I'm Lily. We're calling all athletes to “Show Us What You’ve Got” during your training in quarantine. The COVID-19 virus has canceled many seasons and stopped many athletes from training and staying active as they normally would. I am a rising junior rower at Bates College. As a rower, our spring season was canceled. This season would have been my second competing with my rowing team. As a first-year, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to go to the national championships and we won! It was an unbelievable experience. I have fallen in love with the sport and it is difficult to be away from my team now. Being away from my team is tough and I am curious how other athletes are coping and training during this time alone. I would love to see what you and your friends are doing to train and stay active!
Thank you to Positive Tracks for partnering with us to help create this event, and for matching our first $100! For more information on how youth can #sweatforgood please visit the Positive Tracks website here.
SPECIAL THANKS to Olivia Nelson, a good friend, and recent Northeastern grad, who donated her time for helping us with the design and layout of our FB Event page and flyer.
WE ARE ENDLESSLY GRATEFUL FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION AND WE HOPE YOU HAVE FUN!
