Our community looks forward to the start of the Tacoma Farmers Market season every year. Though COVID-19 is threatening our ability to operate as we normally would, farmers markets are well-suited to help address pressing needs during this crisis. TFM will open our markets on schedule, because we know that investing in our local farms and small businesses helps make our community more resilient.
We believe that all residents of Tacoma should have the opportunity to safely shop outdoors and shop local. We'll be taking many precautions in order to ensure the health of our shoppers, vendors, and market staff and prevent the spread of COVID-19. In addition to other practices, TFM will provide hand sanitizer for shopper use, appropriate PPE for staff, and frequent cleaning of common contact surfaces. We will be enforcing social distancing through chalk lines on the pavement and redesigning our market layouts as well as by counting shoppers in and out of the market as necessary. TFM is also working hard to quickly develop programs for community members who can't come to market, including a mobile market and delivery service.
Please help us create safe marekts and ensure that the fresh produce, friendly faces, and connection to our local food system we all love and appreciate will continue to be accessible during and after the pandemic.
