Hi there! My name is Won Jung, and come October, I will be serving as a Director of Operations Fellow with a global nonprofit organization called Shooting Touch. For the next year, I will provide direct support to Shooting Touch's Rwanda Program (in-country if COVID-19 permits and remotely otherwise), and I hope to fundraise on behalf of this organization and its tremendous work. 100% of funds raised through this campaign will go toward furthering Shooting Touch's mission.
I'm truly honored to be embarking on this next step in my journey to use athletics to affect large-scale, positive change in the world, and I hope you'll join me along the way!
Read on for more about Shooting Touch and suggested donation amounts:
Shooting Touch champions a sport-for-development model and uses the mobilizing power of basketball as a tool for health education, intervention, and improved well-being for individuals, families, and communities. Since its inception in 2007, Shooting Touch has grown from a grassroots basketball program into an international non-governmental organization that has served over 25,000 youth and women in six different countries.
Now with signature programs operating in Boston and Rwanda, Shooting Touch focuses primarily on providing for under-served youth and women of color in these communities to achieve three critical objectives:
1) Promote equal access to physical activity
2) Increase access to health education and health services
3) Provide enrichment to promote social change
In Rwanda specifically, Shooting Touch serves over 1,300 youth, ages 7-21, and 700 women, ages 21+, from six rural communities in the Republic of Rwanda’s Eastern and Northern Provinces. I will be working with the Rwanda Program to execute their basketball and public health programming, which runs the gamut from basketball camps/practices to critical health education and healthcare services/coverage.
How much should I donate?
In these unprecedented times, I realize many are stretched thin, and those with the capacity to give have already given to many worthy causes. That being said, no donation is too small, and every donation is greatly appreciated. Here are some suggested donation amounts and what they can cover:
$20 – Provides a family of five health insurance for one year
$50 – Provides one person a year of basketball league
$100 – Provides one person a basketball league, health education, health testing, and health insurance for a year
$200 – Provides one kid the opportunity to go through our three-month Female Empowerment Course or our two-month Pathways to a Better Future course
$500 – Provides an entire team with equipment, game day snacks/water, travel, etc. for a year
$1,000 – Sponsors one Family Day with health testing
