More than 800 children living homless, low-income or in poverty apply for a new pair of athletic shoes and socks each year from Blue Skies for Children. Please help us raise funds for this very important program.
The picture above is an actual pair of shoes a child arrived wearing to our office. They had been handed down and he was the third child to wear them. Blue Skies gave him a brand new pair of shoes and socks that fit him perfectly. He joyfully ran up and down the hall "testing them out". He was very grateful for his new shoes, but quite fearful to toss the old pair away, expressing great concern that he might need them. His mom helped encourage him to give them up.
Children often arrive in flipflops, their coaches old shoes, slippers, and hand-me-downs that no longer have laces or have holes in soles.
It is our mission to raise hope and self esteem in our youth, and a new pair of shoes will allow a child to stand at the bus stop without getting wet feet or go out to recess without the worry of cold wet feet the rest of the school day. Children need to be able to focus on the class, the lesson, their peers and not on how cold or wet their feet are.
Blue Skies for Children serves both Whatcom and Skagit Counties in WA.
