Shifa Clinic Athens is a nonprofit clinic that provides free healthcare to the medically uninsured & underserved population of the Athens-Clarke County area. Our chapter started in March of 2017, and since then has provided over $30,000 of medical services. We currently have specialists in Internal Medicine, Neurology, Nephrology, Psychiatry, and Pediatrics, all working on a rotating schedule.
Our clinic originally started as an idea by a couple doctors volunteering in Duluth, GA. They noticed a high number of patients commutting from the Athens area. As it turns out, Athens has a tremendous need for affordable, high-quality medical care. Around 40% of the county lives below the poverty line, and there is a huge need for medical services. Five students from the University of Georgia took note of this, and began working with these doctors to pioneer Shifa Clinic Athens.
We're a 501c directly affiliated with ICNA Relief USA, our parent organization that sponsors a multitude of other Shifa Clinics throughout the United States.
