This year has been a time of reflection for our family. While cancer is a familiar word to most everyone; we weren't prepared to have it hit so close to home. My sister, Beth was diagnosed with occular melanoma. The realization that she actually had cancer didn't sink in for me until we were on our way to Vanderbilt to begin treatment. While driving, a feeling of helplessness came over me and I began to pray continuously for healing while fighting back tears. I've been a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for years. Now I want to dedicate my efforts to my sister - Beth Elkins! She is so strong; she is so optimistic; she is my hero!
