Dear friends and family,
I’m writing to ask for your support for an organization I believe in, the Red Cross. My goal is to raise $2500 from friends and family, which I intend to match for a total of $5000.
When disaster strikes, large or small, the Red Cross is ready to respond, providing emergency shelter, food and comfort to those in need. The organization also helps deliver lifesaving blood to patients, trains and prepares community members through education and helps veterans and their families access services.
As a hospitalist physician, I can personally attest to the critical need for blood products. Each week I see patients with conditions from cancer to internal bleeding who desperately need transfusions and bear witness the benefits first hand. As a new mom, I am acutely aware that drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children under five and I appreciated participating in a Red Cross sponsored water safety class with my daughter this summer. As a California resident, I have seen friends affected by the seemingly endless stream of wildfires.
The Red Cross has a strong track record and a broad impact. We all hope to never personally need disaster services but I take comfort in the fact that, if needed, the Red Cross would be there.
This year I have had the privilege to serve on the Board of Directors of the OC Red Cross. I have been impressed by the “sleeves up, heart open” culture. None of the important work would be possible without the compassionate staff, dedicated team of volunteers and donations from people like you.
Every dollar counts. Please join me. Thank you for your support.
