Since my 40th birthday I have chosen to celebrate by raising money to research the disease that afflicted my mom in the last years of her life. This year, I have to change my focus. With the balance of the Supreme Court tipping perilously toward anti-choice and the horrific laws enacted in Alabama and Georgia, I feel it is important to support Planned Parenthood.
While important, abortions are the least of what this organization does. They help to bridge the gap in equitable health care for women, and they do it for the women who need it most. They also provide vital health care for men, too.
So this year I'm starting early on my birthday fundraising. I have committed to a monthly donation to Planned Parenthood. If you were inclined to get me a birthday gift I ask that you put that money toward cancer and STD screening, care for LGBTQ patients, HIV services, birth control, and yes, abortion counseling and services.
