Access to sport has meant so much for my life. Training a sport I enjoy has provided me with an opportunity to learn confidence, develop patience, manage stress, grow physically and mentally stronger, become resiliant, and meet amazing people. Being able to show the culmination of that hard work and growth in a competitive atmosphere, and to experience the cammeradarie of that environment, has made my life better in a way that is irreplacable.
Unfortunately, many trans, nonbinary, gender noncomforming, and intersex athletes are barred from these experiences over fears that they have an unfair advantage. This is simply untrue. It's also just flat out discriminatory and wrong. The consequences these individuals suffer as a result of not having access to sport are severe.
When I get up on the platform for my next meet, I want to be sharing that experience with all of my fellow powerlifters, not just the ones who fit cleanly into a deeply flawed and outdated binary.
Every year, I pick a cause to raise money for in the lead up to a meet. This year, I am raising money to help provide equal access to sport for trans, nonbinary, gender nonconforming and intersex athletes. We can all talk about inclusion, but our actions need to match those words. I hope you will join me, show your support, and Share the Platform.
I will set my initial goal to $1 for every kg I hope to lift at USAPL Raw Nationals on October 17th. My hope is to raise that, and then up my goal to $1 for every lb. Every dollar of support helps me get there! As always, I have made the first donation, and following the meet, will be making an additional donation.
Share the Platform Nationwide
Participating lifters will be raising awareness and raising funds during September and October by pledging an amount of money per pound lifted of their anticipated total at ANY meet that occurs from October 16th to October 21st. (ex: 1$/pound with a Squat-Bench-Deadlift total of 900 lbs would be a pledge of 900$!)
Funds raised will go towards helping trans, nonbinary, gender nonconforming, and intersex athletes participate in strength sports through direct support and advocacy.
*USA Powerlifting athletes are strongly encouraged to participate!
