Once again I’m planning on dragging myself around the Laramie Range Epic, outside of Laramie, Wyoming. It’s a 62 mile mountain bike race (it’s a ride for me.....I’m not racing anybody) through the beautiful Western landscape of southern Wyoming.
I’ve done the race 3 times previously, but that was before kids. With my weight creeping upwards, followed closely by my blood pressure, I decided to throw my hat in the ring for this race as a personal goal to whip me back into shape.
I decided that someone should benefit from my misery and that is why I am starting this Crowdwise fund. I am raising money for my little sister Carrie and the non-profit she has created - Empower SCI. (Empowersci.org)
What is Empower SCI? Here is their Mission Statement.....
Mission Statement
Empower SCI is a non-profit corporation established to enable individuals with spinal cord injuries to lead happier, more meaningful and more independent lives. Empower SCI seeks to fill the gap in the rehabilitation industry that has been created by a decrease in length of stays at rehabilitation hospitals and outpatient services during the recovery from a spinal cord injury.
Empower SCI provides a two week long camp each summer at Stony Brook University and have just added a week long program at the University of Montana this summer. The camp provides life skills to spinal cord injured patients and helps them realize they can lead a full life. Besides life hacks to make their day to day lives easier, attendees also swim, mountain bike, surf, do yoga, and learn from medical professionals across many fields.
I am very proud of what Carrie and her friends and colleagues have created and built through the years and this is my way of attempting to help them and their participants. Any and all funds raised will go directly to Empower SCI to help fund their programs and scholarships for participants.
If possible please donate for this great cause! I greatly appreciate the support!
(Some funds may be funneled for my medical care after the race)
Keep the rubber side down,
