I am not going to lie to you, the thought of running 26.2 miles makes me want to throw up / cry / both. Nonetheless, I will be tackling 26.2 on April 16th and am excited to be running the Boston Marathon.
Watching the Boston Marathon on Patriots Day is one of my favorite events each year. My wife and I have been telling each other that we were going to run the marathon ever since we first watched it together in 2005. Well… instead of having a couple of beers on the sidelines and cheering on the runners, we are lacing up our sneakers and going for it.
I have been training for a while now and I will share some discoveries I’ve had along the way:
1) Running long distance is tiring
2) It’s better to run with a buddy than alone
3) Love handles are not aerodynamic
4) Friction is the Devil!!!! I will be eternally grateful to the person who came up with body glide anti-chafe balm
5) Running for a cause makes it all worth while
I am dedicating my marathon run to my family and the Cambridge Community Center and will be fundraising for the CCC. The CCC is a local community center promoting community cooperation and unity and empowering youth, individuals, and families. The CCC has been raising building funds that will go to updating their almost 90 year old facility. They do great work and have a variety of programs that really benefit families in the Cambridge area where I work. I encourage you to check out the CCC’s website (http://www.cambridgecc.org/) to get a better perspective of the work they do and programs they run.
I am targeting to raise $2,500 for the CCC (Let's go for more!). I would really appreciate any donation you are willing to make no matter how small. Thanks!
With gratitude,
Shane
