Our names are Burke Reimann and Henry Cunningham and we are currently students at Indiana University taking a class called Philanthropy in the 21st Century. For our final project we are tasked with fundraising and advocating for a cause that we believe is a model of what a good charity should be. After doing research, we decided that the Shalom Community Center is a great local charity that tackles an issue that we are both passionate about, preventing homelessness. Our goal for the project is to raise 500 dollars over the next two weeks in order to give someone the opportunity to get a down payment on permanent housing.
The Shalom Community Center offers a wide variety of services and assistance to those in need in the Bloomington area. On a high level, the organization aids in financing, housing, food, and guiding recipeints with the process of obtaining government documents such as birth certificates or IDs.
