"Joy comes well in such a needy time..."
Dear Shakespearience Friends
As a community we have faced a number of challenges during these turbulent COVID times, but we at Shakespearience have done our best to continue to serve your children and our region. When California was asked to shelter in place, we reimagined our curriculum to fit in the new Zoom world we found ourselves in. We found that some of our students needed extra attention as they found it particularly difficult adjusting to our new reality, so we also provided extracurricular zoom activities based on their needs. Our modality shift from face-to-face to distance learning not only gave the students a sense of continuity as their everyday lives were being disrupted, but also gave them a sense of joy and provided much needed creative outlets. Our focused attention for your childrens’ personal and educational growth and well being demonstrates Shakesperience’s commitment to its educational mission and the students we serve.
But despite our best efforts, the fallout from the pandemic has led to a detrimental financial impact and an uncertain future for Shakespearience. During California’s shelter-in-place order, we lost a number of camps, workshops, and school contracts as they were forced to cancel what was deemed as “non-essential” curriculum. And even as California moves to reopen, our future is still unknown. Even now, COVID-19 persists in our state and across the country and we are uncertain how long it will remain with us. As such, families are rightfully insecure about sending their children to camps, fearing for their safety, even as we strictly follow CDC guidelines. And COVID-19’s spectre will continue to impact the arts as audiences will be weary about returning to the theatre, continuing the painful lack of contact that has already taken hold over our community.
And with that, we are reaching out to you, our extended family, to help us during these troubling times. We are looking to raise $10,000 to help us make up the COVID-19 impact. By donating to Shakespearience, you are ensuring the ongoing employment of our teaching and visiting artists, along with our support staff. Your help will allow us to continue to serve over 700 students a year throughout Mill Valley, San Francisco, Berkeley, and the rest of our beloved Bay Area. And your donation will not only help Shakespearience afloat, but it will also contribute to the financial health of our local business and local economy.
We know that our goal is no small ask, but we also know that it is achievable because of the generosity of our community. We know that you understand the value that the arts bring to your children and to our region. So we hope that you help us continue to make Shakespearience part of our communal identity as we continue to have a powerful positive impact on our students.
