Shades for Migraine was created as a way to create a viral buzz around a disease that affects more than 1 billion people worldwide. The campaign challenges everyone to “show they care and wear a pair” of sunglasses on Migraine Solidarity Day (June 21st). Participants spread the message through social media by sharing a picture of themselves wearing sunglasses and challenging others to do so, too. Since 2017, a coalition of more than 41 migraine-related organizations and bloggers have come together to promote Shades For Migraine to get the biggest possible reach.
This year, Shades for Migraine is launched a new initiative, the Community Leader Program, to help people raise awareness within their communities. Leaders from around the world will spread the Shades for Migraine message within their communities, equipped with resources provided by SFM. Community leaders will distribute resources at health centers, schools, workplaces and more. They will also raise awareness for migraine by catching the attention of their local media and politicians.
