Shades for Migraine was created as a way to create a viral buzz around a disease that affects more than 1 billion people worldwide. The campaign challenges everyone to “show they care and wear a pair” of sunglasses on Migraine Solidarity Day (June 21st). Participants spread the message through social media by sharing a picture of themselves wearing sunglasses and challenging others to do so, too. Since 2017, a coalition of more than 41 migraine-related organizations and bloggers have come together to promote Shades For Migraine to get the biggest possible reach.
This year, we are adding a new initiative to the campaign called Taking it to the Streets. This initiative will bring this public awareness campaign to the streets of iconic spots around the world in an effort to educate the general public on this disease. Groups will gather to hand out sunglasses and information handouts to people in their city. In order to make the biggest impact and hold as many of these Taking it to the Streets events, we need your help!
