Modern living. We all enjoy a variety of benefits and a host of challenges from living in the fast paced world of the 21st century. Everywhere we go we have screens giving us information about what is happening in the world, every minute of every day.
Do you crave time away from your screens and the fast pace of modern life?
When, where and how do you find time to immerse yourself in creativity and community conversation?
Three years ago we decided to open the only school in the US solely focused on a broad range of hand embroidery techniques, so that people of all ages could practice hand embroidery, a heritage craft that is relaxing, personalized, and communal. We knew that, without a space and a dedicated community, over time this slow craft would be forgotten.
Considering the scale of what we set out to accomplish, our path ahead looked difficult. We were excited to open our school in a city as diverse as San Francisco and we were lucky to see our hard work pay off as community connections skyrocketed.Through SFSNAD’s outreach and educational programming, more and more people from all around the country (and all over the world) have gained confidence in working with needle and thread and creating their own works of art.
Today we need to ensure the future of SFSNAD. It’s our duty to preserve and to pass on embroidery to future generations. That takes a community working together.
We ask you for your support. Join us in raising $10,000, together let’s create a sustainable future for SFSNAD.Thanks to you, we can continue to preserve and advance the art of hand embroidery through exemplary instruction to students, through our community workshops and global Stitch-At-Home Challenges.
Thanks to you, our coursework, public library, textile collection, and needlework exhibitions will have a space and continued history in the city of San Francisco, with exhibition access to welcome students and visitors of all ages.
Thanks to you, we are able to expand our outreach programs, engaging new stitchers and continuing to grow a community that values and appreciates hand embroidery.
We look forward to seeing you at SFSNAD soon,
