To our entire community,
For the past 40 years the San Francisco FrontRunners hosted the SFFR Pride Run in late June during the weekend of Pride festivities in our glorious city. Since being introduced to the Pride Run in 2017, I myself have grown in a tremendous capacity with a huge thanks to the love and support witnessed at a Pride event of any size. This year's difficult realization that our 41st Pride Run will not exist in the capacity it has for the past four decades came with it an even greater realization; one thing for certain is that "Pride" itself is not cancelled. We as a club chose a Pride Run Beneficiary, as we have done for years; this year our recipient is The LGBT Asylum Project. Our commitment to raise money for their heartfelt cause remains.
"The LGBT Asylum Project was established in 2015 by two immigration attorneys, Okan Sengun, Esq. and Brooke Westling, Esq. who identified a critical need for accessible legal representation among vulnerable immigrant populations escaping violence in their home countries because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status." With a proposed 2020 operating budget of nearly $500,000, our fundraising goes a long way in supporting their efforts. In raising $10,000, we'll save at least 3 LGBTQ asylum seekers’ lives. It will cover their full legal costs for their asylum applications in the United States. Our city and our club are built on the value of welcoming everyone of all abilities; that in itself is the essence of Pride. Please join our effort in raising funds to save the lives of individuals who decided they were stronger than the hatred and shame that Pride fights to destroy.
