Sema Foundation is a Phoenix and Tucson based nonprofit organization in Arizona. We are the people of Sema; where a smile is a priceless donation, a cup of tea is a very serious business and to love your neighbor is our bread & butter. Our vision is to bridge people’s hearts and intellects in Arizona for the betterment of our community. Our current partnerships consist of Embrace Relief, Helping Hand, I-Help, Child Crisis Center, and Feed My Starving Children. In addition to our educational aids.
As you’ve probably seen in the news, within several weeks, there would be a shortage of equipment due to increased demand and necessity. Therefore we, the Sema Foundation, want to aid the local hospitals in our Phoenix and Tucson communities and help as much as we can by raising money to either pay for masks or pay for the materials to make the masks with the help of our volunteers.
Currently, All of our volunteers working around the clock to sew masks for our healthcare workers. We have fourteen sewing, twelve pre-cut and five shopping and logistic (non-sewing tasks) volunteers in Phoenix and in the Tucson area that will be stitching a starting amount of 3000 sewed masks and 2000 non-medical mask to donate to places that need it. We need the listed items below.;
-Five hundred yards cotton fabric
-One Thousand two hundred 1200 elastic cord
-One thousand pipe cleaners.
-Four Thousand quilting pins,
-Fourteen spools of heavy-duty cotton thread.
-Three Sew Machine (these sewing machines will be donated to another nonprofit organization after the campaign)
-Five Thousand mask would be ordered (per mask 22 cents)
This is an emergency and we all have to step up to support our own communities. We want to thank each and every one of you who donates. Spare change changes lives.
Homemade masks are not a substitute for Person Protective Equipment (PPE) but does offer some important protection. The official CDC policy is essential to do whatever you can if you have nothing else. Cloth masks won’t completely stop airborne viruses but do drastically decrease the amount of transmission through the spraying of ‘droplets’ and thereby reducing virus particles on surfaces.
