Embracing the Senses!
Our goal is to bring an exciting opportunity to our riders! A Sensory Trail!
The purpose of our sensory trail is to provide our riders with special needs the opportunity to experience riding in nature while encountering certain ‘interaction stations’ along the trail. These stations offer them the opportunity to explore and learn through a variety of activities while stimulating their senses and addressing various challenges. They can stop and see, hear, smell, or touch different objects (some seasonal to allow for variety) and discuss (if able) with their team.
Some examples would include opening a birdhouse and retrieving a stuffed bird that, when squeezed, has a special ‘song’ (hear) or perhaps smelling natural herbs grown on the farm (smell). A good game of “I Spy” is also fun (see). Natural objects like a pinecone would provide a great (touch)-literally! The creativity and possibilities are many!
This trail is not just for riders, but also their caregivers, clients, Veterans, First-Responders and other program participants. It is our desire to implement this trail to create a unique pathway for peace, joy, discovery and reflection…one step at a time.
Happy Trails and Warm Fuzzies!
