My name is Adam Wilson, and I have an autistic son named Logan. We tried for years to attend comic book conventions as a family because we all enjoy superheroes, comic books, sci fi, and animation. Due to his sensory processing concerns Logan quickly became overwhelmed, and we had to leave very early. This is why I started Calm Passion.
Within two years we held our first Sensory Friendly Comic Convention, Calmer Con! After two successful events, and a third scheduled for 2020, our team felt it was time to help provide access to larger events for those folks like Logan, regardless of their age, who deal with sensory concerns and/or anxiety.
That is why we are launching our new sensory friendly outreach program; Calmer Spaces.
These Calmer Space areas are set apart from the larger event where we have more control over the noise levels and can avoid overcrowding. There is comfortable seating, phone and device charging stations, comic books and graphic novels, and various other activities to help people relax and recharge.
Most importantly, our team is there not only to make sure the areas remain sensory appropriate, but also to provide assistance in any way that we can to help attendees feel comfortable with returning to the event to enjoy everything that it has to offer.
Calm Passion is a 501c(3) Registered Nonprofit, and we have a 100% volunteer staffed team. That being said, in order to provide our services to larger events like Comic Book/Pop Culture conventions, we do have some expenses such as travel, event materials, and meals. We do not charge these other events for our services to help insure that no costs are passed on to attendees.
By donating and sharing our fundraiser, you directly help people like Logan be able to access these great events while knowing that they have the support that they need to really enjoy them.
