Since the begining in 1989 the Orting Senior Centers primary responsibility has always been to enhance the quality of life for the seniors in the Orting Valley Community by providing social, recreational and educational sevices and programs. The Senior Center also provides an opportunity for the seniors to maintain an independant lifestyle. This is accomplished through many hours by senior center staff, volunteers and service agencies. Over the years our programs have grown along with our membership and participants. In the begining of 2020 we were affected by the Covid Pandemic along with everyone else. This has made us even more aware of additional senior services needed such as medical assistance, mental health services, physical activites to keep seniors active and healthy and food insecurity solutions. The majority of our seniors are on a fixed income that seems to go down each year while expenses are on the rise. We offer many of our programs and activities at no charge to the seniors to help them keep their finances focused on their basic needs. Our current facility is a rented space and we are limited to seating only 40 people at a time for meals. We desparately need a larger facility that we can accomodate our growing membership. Our meal counts alone have gone from 300 a month to over 900. Our numbers just keep growing. We have been givien an amazing opportunity to be gifted a local building. It is in amazing shape but we need to expand the kitchen, add commercial equipment, add a kitchen pantry, add restrooms, install a generator and heat pump for in climate weather conditions, laundry, shower facilities and a room for our Senior Food Pantry (groceries for seniors) . We have grants written but they take time we just do not have so we are hoping to get help raising the $1,079,639.00 it will cost to do all of this. We truly appreciate you reading our story and hopefully you find it in your heart to help our seniors. You can learn more about our center on our Facebook Page (ortingvalleyseniorcenter) or follow us on Instagram! Any questions you can contact me Staci (Director) at (360) 893-5827 Thank you!
