My name is Yayin(Sophia) He, a first generation immigrant, and first generation college student in my family. I have been living in the U.S for about 6 years, and last summer, I started work in the Chinese Progressive Association(CPA) as a part-time employee. This year, the Co-director of my organization asked me if I was interested in participating in a summer fellowship program Seeding Change which is for Asian American activists and organizers. I was unsure because I worried that I might not fit into this group with my immigration background.
But after I attended the Seeding Change, I am so glad that I am part of this National Fellowship Seeding Change this summer. Since Seeding Change gather people across the country from different cities to come together, it provides a space for people with different backgrounds to share our own experiences and stories with one another. This is also a place for people from different communities to learn from each others’ cultures and local social issues.
I am so grateful for having this opportunity to meet all these wonderful people with different backgrounds from Seeding Change, as we are learning together, working closely, and builting power together. When in need, we all support each other. Seeding Change has really helped us grow together even though I have different background and culture than others. So I hope Seeding Change is able to help more people who will continue to fight for justice, and even help them to grow and develop more on social justice work.
This is my first time to attend a national fellowship, and this is also my first time running a fundraising campaign. I hope you will support our work and fundraising efforts. Your every dollar is a big support for us!! Please help me to reach the goal and support us!
